Dimensional rates allow ShipWisely to dynamically calculate shipping costs based on each order's weight and size. While optional, this feature is highly recommended for all stores as it ensures customers get accurate rates, preventing overcharging or undercharging. It also prevents offering pickup point delivery for oversized orders.

How rates are calculated
To determine if a parcel locker can accommodate an order, our rate and fitting engine performs a series of calculations:
First, it checks if the total weight of the order falls within the pickup point limits
Next, it verifies if the order volume is within the maximum capacity of the parcel locker
Throughout this process, we select the smallest parcel locker comportment that can fit the order based on its weight and volume and determine an appropriate rate. This ensures efficient and effective handling, reduces after-sales support, and enables you to offer the lowest delivery price to your customers, thereby maximising customer satisfaction and conversions.
Enable dimensional rates
To enable dimensional rates follow the steps below:
Configure variant metafields:
Navigate to your store settings and open the “Custom data” page
Under “Metafield definitions” select “Variants” and press “Add definitions”
Add 3 metafield definitions:
Name:
Length
, Namespace and key:shipwisely.length
, Type:Dimension
Name:
Width
, Namespace and key:shipwisely.width
, Type:Dimension
Name:
Height
, Namespace and key:shipwisely.height
, Type:Dimension
Add dimensions for your products and product variants:
Once you've set up metafields, they'll show on your product and variant pages. Enter the dimensions for all products and variants, and ShipWisely will use these to automatically determine the best compartments and rates for each order. This also ensures that only suitable pickup points for the order are offered to your customers.
